Low brass Week 2

We had a great second week. Forms turned in, instruments checked out, supplies explored, and first sounds were made. We still have a couple of medical release forms that need to be turned in.  You will be receiving this newsletter each Friday to let you know what we’ve been working on and what will be expected for the next week. I will also let you know of any announcements made in class. We are looking forward to a fun year.

Announcements:

  • Next practice card is due next Friday with a parent signature and will passed out on Tuesday.
  • Return Pages were due Friday, August 25th. You can still get credit for turning them in on Tuesday after the holiday. This form is essential for travel with the band.
  • Please sign up for Remind. You can learn how at this link.
  • The kickoff for the band fundraiser was this week, look for an envelope to come home that describes it.  We will be doing a color run!
  • School Dance sponsored by the band is Friday, September 8th.
  • Band fees are due. $30 to Clark Band or pay online here.
  • If you have questions, please check out clarkband.org or email me.

What we did this week:

  • We explored our supplies to see if we each have them. We also learned what each item was for. Some items stay home, like the folding wire stand. While others stay in our case.
  • Tubas & Euphoniums will need to have a travel case for their supplies that would normally go in a case.
  • We learned how to put our instruments together. Trombones can review with this video:https://youtu.be/wNY0wsoRHGc
  • Tubas and Euphoniums learned how to oil valves. Review that process with this video:https://youtu.be/OT9pA0xEQ7U
  • We learned how to move air to produce our first sounds
  • Trombones, Euphoniums, and Tubas have started playing concert F and concert Bb.

What we will do next week:

  • Learn our music alphabet
  • Count whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes
  • Center our sounds on a target note
  • Start learning out of the beginner book
