Percussion Week 20

6th Grade

Reminders:

  • Winter Party, Friday February 5th

In case you missed the email last week, please make sure your child is practicing correctly!

Snare

  • Warm up with exercises! Figure out the best tempo for YOU (this might not be the same as our class tempo)
  • Rudiments, play different ones every day, make sure you have them memorized and switch hands
  • MUSIC READING!!! Practice lines from the book and appendixes along with coordination, rudimental, and rhythmic etudes.
    • COUNT, CLAP, AIR-STICK, COUNT WHEN YOU PLAY, TAP YOUR FOOT, PRACTICE WITH A METRONOME :) :) COUNT

Marimba

  • Warm up with technique exercises, Chromatic Claw, Double-stops in C and F
  • Run through your scales/tetrachords. Focus on your problem scales and think about key signatures.
  • Lines from the book – don’t just play them! Challenge yourself and go through the steps on your own
    • SAY THE NOTES
    • FIND THE NOTES
    • TOUCH THE NOTES
    • PLAY THE NOTES — And don’t look down :)
  • *** Speed reader with a metronome and homework packet pages count as practice time!

7th and 8th Grade

Centennial Drumline auditions continue next week. Tenor audition camp #1 is Tuesday 2/2 at 5PM

  • There will be bass drum and tenor addendum passed out in the upcoming weeks but the bulk of the material will be pulled from the snare packet. (LT kids, the packet is a great resource for you to practice as your auditions approach)
  • May 7th – Percussion Concert, Solo & Ensemble
  • Centennial Drumline Camp, June 6-10
