We are having a whole lot of fun in the beginner classes. Your child, by now, should be able to play all five of their home base notes and we have begun playing our lines in the book! Ask them to play line 14 for you and see if you recognize it! You will begin to hear more and more lines that you recognize, I promise. Your child should be practicing for 20 – 25 minutes each practice session now and their time should be divided into
- 3 minutes – breathing and buzzing for brass
- 5 minutes – long tones and tonguing on the home base notes, lip slurs for brass
- 10 minutes – learning new lines
- 4-5 minutes – fun time, play your favorite lines
- 2-3 minutes – long tones for a nice “warm down”

- Practice cards are due on Monday, September 25th
- Students need to wear their band t-shirt on Monday, September 25th for the pep rally.
- The band Color Run is next Friday, September 29! You can still pre-order your In and Out meal, and donate for the Color Run online here. This event was a blast last year and I’m looking forward to it again! Here is the schedule for the run.
- The History of the Instrument project was assigned this week and is due October 16th.
