First Week: Mission Accomplished

Dear Parents,

The first week is in the history books. Our trombone, euphonium, and tuba classes all have 3 assignments completed, one parent meeting attended, instruments checked-out or rented, and supplies acquired.

You should be receiving this newsletter every week. In each, will be posts that have been made on clarkband.org. Those posts can be anything from assignments that week to an instructional video link.

Here is a run down of this week and what to expect next week:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday assignments: these should have been signed by a parent and returned.
  • Learning air to buzz on our mouthpieces with our EFDs (ask them what that is)
  • Playing position – have fun with this parents and ask them to demonstrate for you
  • Basic symbols (Bass clef, staff, leger lines)
  • Music alphabet – forward and backwards then speeding up
  • How to assemble and hold our instruments
  • Next week:
    • Instruments go home every day (trombones); mouthpieces for euphoniums and tubas
    • Lessons 1-8 from 5 minute theory
    • Valve combinations & slide positions
    • First 5 notes

I look forward to a very fun and productive first year with your children. Enjoy your three day weekend.

Mr. Kennedy
