The Honor Band is doing well and is on track for success at UIL at the beginning of March. This is the most challenging time for practice. We are asking the students to dig a little deeper for greater precision in everything that they perform. It will require more maturity, tenacity, and patience in moving forward. As a parent, you be hearing practice that is targeting smaller problems that should be repeated many times with a tuner and metronome to polish out those problems. We are so proud of the kids and how hard they are working. Please keep encouraging them at home as we are going through this rigorous time in our rehearsals.

Announcements

• Practice Cards are due Monday, February 9
• Academic eligibility will go into effect for UIL. Students must pass ALL classes to participate in UIL
• Winter Band Party has been changed to Friday, February 20
• Second Clinic on Tuesday, February 17 from 4-6:30pm
• Pre-UIL Concert, Thursday, February 26 – students may leave after their respective performances.

Assignments

• Sectionals are mandatory and part of each students’ fundamental skills grade
• Mastery on the following pieces of music is evaluated each week through sectionals and daily class rehearsals:
  • March of the Buccaneers
  • Irish Air and Dance
  • Blue Ridge Reel
