At this stage in your child’s development, you should continue to hear a consistent, and well structured practice routine. When practicing, your child should be counting rhythms, singing and fingering/sliding notes, and articulating a melody or etude before playing. Students are also instructed to start slower on new assignments. We also instruct them to practice smaller portions of an assignment to fix mistakes before taking on the entire song/exercise. If your student can not demonstrate this structured activity, they may be struggling in class. Please encourage them at home to stay on top of their assignments so they can continue to enjoy playing their instrument.
