While many lament that we are not going to have a snow day this weekend, I, for one, am quite glad that we are not trading one of our future warm spring days for a cold winter one. I hope your weekend is full of fun and practicing!
I’ve noticed lately that some students are not practicing very efficiently. Your child’s practice session should look and sound something like this.
Warm up – Buzzing, Leadpipe playing, Long Tones (4-5 minutes)
Chromatic Scale (2-3 minutes)
Lip Slurs (3-4 minutes)
Scales (10 minutes)
Melodies and lines from the book (5 minutes)
Fun time (5 minutes)
Warmdown – similar to warmup (2 minutes)
As you can see, the bulk of your child’s practice time should be devoted to scales and the lines and melodies we are currently working on. They should have a little bit of fun time to work on whatever they like or to even play past projects, but that should be a very small portion of the practice session.
Trumpets – Scales Bb, Ab, F and C, new scales G and Db, Pirates of the Caribbean
Oboes – Scales F, G, C and Eb, new scales D and Ab, Pirates of the Caribbean, new melodies to come!
French Horns – Scales F, G, Eb and C, new scale D, Pirates of the Caribbean
Bassoons – Scales F, G, C and Bb, new scales Db and Ab, Crazy Train
