Weekly Update

Greetings Parents,

As grades have come out for the first progress report, or you are just checking the HAC, you may have a few questions. The number one question is usually why a student is not making an ‘A’ in band. At this early stage, that reason would be the practice card. Students should be bring instruments home daily and practicing 30 minutes each day. We teach them that a little bit every day is better than a lot for just a few days.

Our classes are starting to pick up. So, here are a few things to check at home:


General Announcements

  • Everyone should be practicing 30 minutes each day.
  • Practice Cards are due every Monday. Parents please sign them on Sunday. When there are some missing grades for practice cards, have your child turn-in their practice card and they will still receive credit; even for late cards.
  • The projects were wonderful. Check the link to the gallery.

Tubas

  • Mouthpieces, B.E.R.P.S., valve oil, band binders go home every day. The students have been asked to acquire a travel/accessory bag to carry those items.
  • Valve series; up and down for speed
  • Buzz a steady tone and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
  • Remington exercise
  • Articulation Limerick
  • Note recognition (work for speed)
  • Rhythms on page 46 – first three lines
  • Check valves on home tuba for oiling

Euphoniums

 

  • Mouthpieces, B.E.R.P.S., valve oil, band binders go home every day. The students have been asked to acquire a travel/accessory bag to carry those items.
  • Valve series; up and down for speed
  • Buzz a steady tone and Siren buzz
  • Remington exercise; 1 note and 2 notes
  • Note recognition (work for speed)
  • Rhythms on page 46 – first three lines
  • Articulation Limerick
  • Check valves on home tuba for oiling

 


Trombones

  • Instruments go home every day. Slide should be cleaned and slide cream re-applied this week (do this every two to four weeks).
  • 6 slide positions – alternate, work for speed and accuracy (evenly spaced positions)
  • Buzz a steady tone and sirens
  • Rhythms on page 46 first 3 lines
  • Lines 1 – 8
  • Articulation Limerick
  • Note recognition, work for speed.
